"Warm Chill" By Elissa Rosenthal

 Warm Chill

 By Elissa Rosenthal

The watching windows
are like the eyes

from above me.
Windows full of memories

creating a warm chill
to keep me up at night.

Hold me close douglas fir
as wind wallows through you,

as my tears
water your roots.

Vanilla and Licorice by Elissa Rosenthal

 Sweet Tea
by Elissa Rosenthal

Fragrant waters swirl in clockwise motion,
steaming from the brew.
Glasses fog with scents of vanilla and licorice,
bringing the desire to taste.
Lips meet warm liquid nourishment,
setting the heart in front of its' own private fireplace.
Muscles rest from their tight positions,
and melt into the cushions surrounding them.

Moonlit Strength for Yule

 Moonlit Strength for Yule
By Elissa Rosenthal

Moon gaze upon me tonight,
Help me through this trying blight,
Keep me calm and give me strength,
For I right now have little faith,
Show me the way to the afterlife,
My past religion is now a knife,
Smiles gaze- like you- so bright,
Give me strength not to fight,
They have their way,
The ones I did wane.

I can never be,
Anyone but the soul within this body,
I must keep my head held,
Shouts of rightness will be expelled,
Family accusations can pass,
For their views do not match mine- alas,
Smiles gaze- like mine- so bright,
I must have strength not to fight,
They have their way,
The ones I did wane.

I can keep myself intact,
I do not need to act,
I am polytheistic where they are not,
I will not let my integrity rot,
Smiles gaze- like you- so bright,
Give me strength not to fight,
They have their way,
This year's Yule I will not dismay.

Fear of Moving Forward

Fear of Moving Forward
by Elissa Rosenthal

Pulsing eyes feel wet as liquid icicles run down my face,
As cold as my bloods' provider.
Stillness,
A wound-tight clock wishing to turn,
I stay unmoving out of that which provides my chill.

Liquid icicles morph into liquid rust,
As the clockwork coils grind against each other.

Slow movement starts.

The coils creek in anticipation,
Hoping the body follows.

"Go", they say,
"Dare to change your unmoving state."

Glowing Hope

Glowing Hope
By Elissa Rosenthal

Glowing radiant hope,
touched my fingers with a tingle of electricity.
My heart bounded like a hamster,
wishing their wheel was an escape route.
"What is this?", I whispered in the darkness, and looked upon the orb.
I could still hear the drip coming from the broken pipe, from which I would drink.
The bruised apple with a piece eaten still laid next to the pile of abandoned misfit pieces I used as a bed.
The light was new.
To the world and I,
this light was new.
My mouth expressed a gasp,
as I saw that the light was coming from me.

Backstabber

 Backstabber
By Elissa Rosenthal

You turned your back on me,
when I needed you the most.
Stabbing knifes into the life,
you treated like a ghost.

Why do you dare,
to call yourself my friend.
You have not been for years,
hardly were near the end.

You only talked to me,
when you needed to not feel alone.
But later when I called you,
I was left crying in my home.

Why do you dare,
to call yourself my friend.
You have not been for years,
hardly were near the end.

Chances

Chances
by Elissa Rosenthal

As the light in the stars glow bright,
our bright ones turn dim.
People of all colors,
now all look the same.
It does not matter your background.
We see the stars glimmer bright,
and forget that they are us.
For we are them in further form,
even though we are still a mess.
Organized chaos surrounds everything in this universe,
keeping the balance while creating chances.
Chances to expand and become more than,
who we are.
More than manufactured manikins.

Let Us Bee Together

Let Us Bee Together
By Elissa Rosenthal

Let us bee together.
Has horrible as that pun may be,
let us join together,
so others may see.

How there are people,
like you and I,
who do not call themselves straight or gay-
but bi.

I know they exist,
because so do I.
This sexuality is how I identify.

I am not greedy,
a slut,
or a hiding gay.
I am only built this way.

Please try to understand that I exist,
even if you are a pessimist.

I have heard the rumors,
the generalized tales,
on how every bi woman,
is a straight one who's kissed a female.

I have heard how,
if you are bi,
that you are a lesbian,
who feels a need to lie.

I am telling you,
right hear on this day,
I am neither straight or gay.

I am a bi woman,
today and any other day.

Happy Bi Visibility Day Everyone! I hope you are having a great day and weekend!

The People's Mirror

 The People's Mirror
By Elissa Rosenthal

Awing midnight surrounds my small being.

Universal twinkles comfort my eyes.

Sluggish waters become all people's mirror;

including Luna sharing her glimmer.

Peer into the All People's Mirror,

perhaps it will show your beauty as clear.

Emotions

Emotions
By: Elissa Rosenthal

Fiery fills all I know and all I am.

Harsh words fill my mind with deep night regrets.

Feel my passion,
hate,
and fear,
 through my words.

Feel my passion
want,
and fear,
through my actions.

I scream among the stars as my eyes close in fitful slumber.

I weep in my dreams,
remembering the harsh memories of the day.

Two minds,
two different expressions of emotion.

I tell you I hate you for the same reasons I hate myself.

I give the actions I wish someone would do for me.

Read between the lines.
Think through the actions,
and the speech.
We are human.
Emotions were taught to be in the background,
silenced,
twisted,
stretched.

Do not weep but yell.

Do not yell but weep.

Childhood emotional training nonexistent.
Why do people not see?

I yell because that was the only way they would listen.

I cry because then they would hear.

Simple explanations never taught.
Understanding never understood.

Feel my passion,
hate,
and fear,
through my words.
I beg.

Feel my passion,
want,
and fear,
through my actions.
I pray.

Sparkling Nothingness

Sparkling Nothingness

By Elissa Rosenthal

Complacent populations stand around a fire made of sparkling nothingness.

They claim a need for beauty that presents no emotion.

They conceal wonder created by the unknown.

Contorting their natural instincts,

they flail themselves and others,

in search for meaning.

Cannibalistic,

conquests,

of mind and body.

Stair into the crystallized nothingness.

Let the corruption seep into your veins.

Contort your natural instincts and flail.

I Have No Face

I Have No Face

By Elissa Rosenthal

I have no face,
Besides one given to me.

I have no face,
Within this society.

Give me some string,
I will show you a puppet.

Give me some notes,
I will show you a trumpet.

I have no face,
For I am more than outsides.

I have no face,
For I am not lies.
